In the top left corner of the 3D View, select the Scale tool from the Tools panel. Press S and then X to snap the 3D cursor to the object’s origin along the X-axis. Add a new object to the scene (Shift+A→Mesh→UV Sphere). Select the object and press S to scale it. Notice that the object scales equally on all axes by default.
To constrain the direction of scaling, press and hold Shift while pressing S. Then, press X, Y, or Z to constrain the direction of scaling along that axis.
To scale an object non-uniformly, press and hold Ctrl while pressing S. Then, press X, Y, or Z to scale only along that axis.
You can also use the proportional editing falloff (O key) to control how the Scale tool affects nearby objects.
