UI design
Blender is a free and open source 3D creation suite. It supports the entirety of the 3D pipeline—modeling, rigging, animation, simulation, rendering, compositing and motion tracking, even video editing and game creation. Advanced users employ Blender’s API for Python scripting to customize the application and write specialized tools; often these are included in Blender’s release cycle. Blender is well suited to individuals and small studios who benefit from its unified pipeline and responsive development process.
Blender’s user interface is optimized for 3D creation, displaying the toolbox at the left side of the screen, and the timeline and properties at the bottom. The rest of the screen is dedicated to the 3D View, where you manipulate your objects.
The interface is highly customizable, and you can tailor the workspace to your needs. For example, you can undock and move windows around, or create your own custom layouts.
There are three main areas in Blender’s UI: the Toolbox, the 3D View, and the Timeline.
The Toolbox contains all the tools you need to create and manipulate objects in your scene. Each tool has a specific function, and is only active when you’re using that tool.
The 3D View is where you actually create and manipulate your objects. It’s also where you preview your work in progress.
The Timeline is where you manage your animation. You can create keyframes here, and edit your animation curves.
Blender’s user interface is designed to be efficient and intuitive. The layout is logical and easy to understand, and the tools are clearly laid out in the Toolbox. The 3D View is highly interactive, and the Timeline provides a clear overview of your animation.
Blender’s user interface is constantly being improved, and new features are added with each release. If you have any suggestions for how we can make it even better, please let us know!
